About GuelphChurch.com
GuelphChurch.com lists congregations across Guelph so that anyone looking for a church can find one this Sunday, with the facts they need and a fair description of what each church believes.
Why it exists
Jesus told his followers that they are the light of the world, and that no one lights a lamp to hide it under a basket. This site is a small lamp. Many people who are looking for God, or finding their way back to him, begin by searching for a church nearby. We want that search to end at the door of a local congregation, where they can hear the good news of Jesus Christ and be welcomed by his people.
Who we are
We are Christians who build websites for the kingdom of God, and we do it not for profit. Nothing here is for sale, there is no advertising, and no church pays to be listed. Our aim is simply to glorify God and to serve his church.
We are Reformed Christians ourselves, and we say so plainly because it shapes the site in one visible way: on most pages you will find an invitation to visit the local Canadian Reformed congregation, written for people coming from the tradition the page is about. Everything else, from service times to the descriptions of other churches, is meant to be accurate and useful whether or not you ever take us up on it.
How the listings are made
Each entry starts from the church's own website and the directory of its denomination, and every page we relied on is linked under "About this listing" on the church's page. An entry is published only after a person has checked it, and the date of that check is shown. Service times change for holidays, summer and special occasions, so please confirm with the church before you go.
We are adding Guelph's Christian congregations as we research and check them, so not every church in the city is listed yet, and we also list groups that people search for as churches but that do not confess the Trinity of the historic creeds; those appear under a separate heading with a factual note. Places of worship of other religions are outside what this site covers.
How the descriptions are written
Each tradition is described the way its own members would describe it, drawing on its official statements of faith, and comparisons with Reformed churches are written to be fair to both sides. If we have got something wrong about your church, we want to know.
Corrections
Write to hello@guelphchurch.com or use the suggest an edit page. Church offices are welcome to send updated times, a photo we may use, or a description in their own words.
Photos and maps
The photos on this site come from Wikimedia Commons, under Creative Commons licences; and the churches' own websites. Every photo is credited below with a link to where it came from, and a church listed on this site also credits its photo on its own page. If a photo of your church should be replaced or removed, write to hello@guelphchurch.com and we will do it. Where a church has no photo yet, a drawing of its kind of building is shown instead. Some map coordinates were looked up with Nominatim, using data from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
