Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate
The Basilica is a Roman Catholic parish and minor basilica of the Diocese of Hamilton. The parish describes the church on Catholic Hill as, since 1827, a symbol of the enduring faith of its people to the city of Guelph and beyond.
The Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate stands on Catholic Hill above downtown Guelph. The High Victorian Gothic Revival church, considered the masterpiece of architect Joseph Connolly, was built between 1876 and 1888, and its twin towers, rising over 200 feet, were completed in 1926. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1990, restored between 2007 and 2014 at a cost of over $12 million, and named a minor basilica by Pope Francis on December 8, 2014. The parish serves about 2,600 families. The parish office is open weekdays, 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.
