Harcourt Memorial United Church
Harcourt describes itself as a progressive, Affirming and greening church community that provides space for people to explore and deepen their spiritual lives and their involvement in social justice. Its purpose is to welcome and strengthen in community all who wish to serve God's world and follow the way of Jesus, and it names risk, respect, responsibility, vulnerability and trust as core values.
Harcourt traces its origins to 1887, when Sunday-school teachers from the Congregational Church on Norfolk Street started a mission in the Brooklyn neighbourhood. It became a congregation of the United Church of Canada on March 4, 1956, taking its name from Caroline Forbes Harcourt and Robert Harcourt, leaders and benefactors of the mission, and its present building on Dean Avenue in the Old University neighbourhood was dedicated on January 7, 1962. The church office is open Tuesday to Friday mornings.
What to expect
Music & Message services include the Harcourt Choir with piano or guitar, and occasionally the Handbell Choir, in the sanctuary and by livestream, followed by coffee at Harcourt Café. Manna is an alternative all-ages gathering built around storytelling, music, art, play and all-age-friendly spiritual practices.
