Knox Presbyterian Church
Knox's mission is to share Jesus' love with everyone through worship, loving acceptance and faithful service, in the conviction that Christ walks with us and works through us every day. It is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Knox was established on August 7, 1844 by the Presbytery of Hamilton with 104 names on its communion roll, meeting at first in a schoolhouse by the river, the Canada Company’s office and private homes before building a limestone church on Yarmouth Street in 1847. In 1868 trustee Evan MacDonald gave the congregation its lot on Quebec Street for one dollar; the church joined the Presbyterian Church in Canada at the union of 1874, was gutted by fire and restored in 1904, voted to remain Presbyterian in 1925, and dedicated a major renovation with an elevator in 1997.
What to expect
The service is described as a blend of traditional and contemporary styles with dynamic music and relevant teaching of God's Word. There is one city-designated accessible parking spot on Quebec Street in front of the church, and more parking at nearby bank lots.
